As the boiling hot summer of 2002 enters the last month of the "Summer", The Freedom Riders of Philadelphia (FRP) are just getting started. Slowly, but surely we'd like to build our numbers up without any strings attached. It's free to join, you can come and go as you please on one condition: Fun must be had. We just thought it would be fun to put together a small club within the BCP that will ride at least on a weekly basis. In addition, people within the FRP may contact each other without hesitation to accompany each other on rides all throughout the Philadelphia Area.

As of now the FRP is hosting only one ride per week and that is the Pennypack Park ride on Sunday afternoons beginning at 12pm. The ride begins at Rita's Water Ice located at the Academy Plaza parking lot (Academy & Red Lion Rds). We hope to see some people come out and try their skill at this leisurely 17 mile trip.

Make no mistake: The FRP is NOT in competition with the BCP in any way. We simply just want to gather a small division of BCP members for friendly rides. With the name FRP, we hope that people can identify us by our location. Such as in the movie Pearl Harbor, there were two flying teams that joined together and their names spoke of their location. There was Terrors Of The Skies out of Long Island, New York and even more specific the Pride Of The Pacific based in Pearl Harbor. Or, an even more recognizable division, The M*A*S*H* 4077. In the same fashion, we are hoping that people recognize the FRP as a division of the BCP that are based in the Far Northeast section of Philadelphia.

The name, The Freedom Riders of Philadelphia, is a play on words from colonial times. Back of the days of independence, which Philadelphia was such an important part of, there were a group of soldiers known as Freedom Fighters. Nearly 225 years later, our country was threatened again by forces overseas in an attack that was only reflected by the dreadful attack at Pearl Harbor on December 7th. In the spirit of the Philadelphians who made our independence possible, I now present this new subdivision to all the members of the BCP. So without further ado, I now present The Freedom Riders of Philadelphia!
